SACHSE (October 6, 2016) The Sachse Library’s stated objective of serving as a catalyst for early children learning and literacy has been enhanced with the addition of three highly-specialized computers and software, thanks to a grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
“The grant from the Commission was used to purchase two Early Literacy Stations, and one Afterschool Edge computer,” says Mignon Morse, Library Manager. “The Early Literacy Stations target children from ages 2 to 8, and the After school Edge computer is designed for students ages 6 to 14.”
All three computers are part of the Advanced Workstations for Education computer system.
The acquisition of the computers is one of 73 such projects statewide made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act. The Sachse grant totaled $9,858.
The software which accompanies the Early Literacy Stations is easy to use and introduces young learners to age-appropriate multi-curricular content. Use of this software has been shown to be effective in preparing the youngsters for school.

The fun, interactive and engaging content spans all seven curricular areas: math; science and nature; social studies and geography; reading; art and music; writing and computer skills; and reference.
The Afterschool Edge computer is configured to appeal to upper elementary school children, and is designed for students age 6 to 12. The software is intended specifically to assist students engage in homework help and skill reinforcement.
The three computers are located in the children’s area and are available for use on a first-come, first-serve basis.
“Providing educational resources for children and youth is a top priority at the library,” added Morse. “We’re truly excited to have the new computers, making digital learning available to our school children.”
