The Sachse Public Library will be partnering with OASIS Texas, an AT&T employee resource group to bring a four part series of programs to the Sachse Public Library beginning January 2015.

AT&T employees are actively involved in STEM training in their communities to promote and support innovation in young minds. Following a successful 2013 run which involved teaching over 1200 kids how to create mobile applications, OASIS at AT&T (the South Asian Employee Organization at AT&T) continued with the momentum to partner with various libraries and associations to bring STEM education to kids this year.  OASIS won an award from AT&T for leading the Mobile App initiative. This program has been an overwhelming success.

The workshops are designed for Grades 6 to 12 and will be an opportunity for students to learn how to create android mobile apps.  The Mobile app programming workshops were very well received in neighboring libraries, and we want to give Sachse the opportunity to participate.  The three hour workshops will combine presentations and hands on training.  Each student will create their own app and leave with the necessary tools to make more complex android mobile apps.   Participants are required to have their own laptop, charger, and android device.   The programs will be held on January 13, February 10, March 10, and April 14 from 5:30 to 8:00.  Registration is required and attendance at all the workshops is strongly encouraged.   Seating is limited, so sign up now and don’t miss out on this program.     If you would like to register, you can call the library at 972-530-8966 during regular library hours.

The library will be hosting a special story time on December 18th at 11:00 featuring The Magic Genie, story teller and puppeteer.  She will be presenting a half hour storytelling program for preschoolers entitled “Gifts Galore”, stories told with puppets and fun with the Magic Genie.   Immediately following the story time, there will be a lunch served.   Everyone is welcome to stay and celebrate the holidays together.   Regular story times will resume on January 8th at 11:00 a.m.
